Crankworx Preview

2013 marks the 10th anniversary of Crankworx Whistler and what has become the largest mountain bike festival in North America. During the 10 day event the worlds best downhill mountain bikers flock to Whistler to take part in some of the biggest mountain bike competitions in the world.

Along with the daily mountain bike competitions Crankworx offers amazing parties, film premiers, photo galleries, FREE concerts and much more.

To help you navigate through the madness that is Crankworx your friends at the Holiday Inn Whistler have created a quick index off what to expect from the week to come.

Mountain Bike Contests

The main draw to Crankworx Whistler is off course the dozens of mountain bike competitions taking place all festival long. All in all there are 15 contests over 10 days. While we won't get into all of the contests in great detail our two personal picks have to be the Red Bull Joyride and Canadian Open Downhill. Both of these contest take place on the final two days of the festival and for good reason. These two event's are the marquee competitions of Crankworx.

Red Bull Joyride

Redbull Joyride

Twenty of the best freestyle mountain bike riders in the world compete for the chance to win $50,000. During this event riders take three runs down an insane bike park track meant to combine natural features with huge man made obstacles. Riders create their own lines down a track full of huge jumps, drops and step-ups. Competitors have three chances to land their best combination of tricks with their best score standing in the end. This event draws huge crowds to Skiers Plaza where you have a front row view of the Whistler Bike Park and all of the action.

Canadian Open Downhill

When: Sunday, August 18 | Where: Skiers Plaza | Time: 3PM - 5PM | Cost: FREE

The best downhill mountain bikers in the world tackle one of Whistler's nastiest single-track bike trails during the Canadian Open DH. The rider who makes it down the fastest win's the big check and becomes the entrenched in Crankworx folklore for years to come.
