16th Annual Showcase Showdown
Posted: Wednesday, February 13, 2013
Canada's longest running
snowboard competition keeps the tradition alive this Saturday,
March 2 with the 16th Annual Showcase Showdown. The
Showdown has long been a place for the best riders in the area and
throughout North America to come test their skills. This long
standing tradition is always a big hit within the community and
attracts some big crowds for the finals.
The competition is a Slopestyle event that involves riders taking runs downhill with a series of big jumps and rails. Each run is scored individually with the riders best run standing as their overall score.
What makes this contest so special is the fact that it's open to the general public meaning anyone can enter as long as they put up the $60 entry fee.
The competition takes place Saturday, March 2 with the qualifying rounds set to start around 1PM. Then at 4PM the top qualifiers from earlier in the day will battle it out in front of the hometown crowd for the Showcase Showdown crown.
People are encouraged to come out and cheer on the competitors throughout the day at Skiers Plaza located at the Base of Whistler Mountain. The contest is FREE to watch and really starts to fill up when the finals kick off at 4PM.
