It's that time of the year the snow is gone and summer is almost here, time to dust off the clubs and head up to Whistler for a summer get away. Whistler features 3 courses within a 10 minute drive of each other, here's a quick review of what each one has to offer.
Nicklaus North Golf Club
Nicklaus North is
Whistler's most recognizable and decorated course due in most part
to the famous golf legend who designed the course. Jack Nicklaus
golf's most acclaimed athlete took this beautiful piece of land and
created a golf village. The par 71 is situated on the north side of
Whistler and runs along Whistler's glacier fed Green Lake. This
magnificent design takes elements from many of Jack's most famous
designs as sweeping lakes and perfectly manicured bunkers line to
open design course. This course differs from the other two Whistler
tracks in that it has very little tree coverage. While the other
two courses run in and out of Whistler's naturally forested areas,
Jack's course is built on the valley floor allowing the player to
take in the sweeping views of Whistler without any interference
from the outside world. When you reach the back 9 of the course
Whistler's Green Lake starts to factor into the holes design
bringing a whole new perspective and challenge to course. Hole 17
Nicklaus North's signature hole is a 213 yard par 3, the back of
the green teeters on the edge of the lake giving players a
spectacular view of both the course, lake and mountain views in the
back. The course is always in immaculate condition and features a
world class clubhouse and practice range and facility. For the
player looking to enjoy both a classic Jack Nicklaus designed
course with breathtaking mountain and lake views then look no
further than Nicklaus North.
Chateau Whistler Golf Club
The Chateau Whistler is a one of a kind wonder
designed by world renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. This
course offers something completely different from the other two
simply because of the location in which it was built. The course is
nestled on a mountainside and follows the natural curvatures of the
surrounding area. Constant elevation changes make this course
unique as hole to hole you race up and down the mountain. In fact
you can't even walk the course, carts are mandatory and included in
the fee in order to maintain speed of play. Enjoy the spectacular
views that come with sitting high above the valley floor and
navigate your ball up and down the fairways that follow the natural
hills. The course itself features natural springs that flow
throughout the fairways and greens providing both challenges and
gorgeous views. The greens just like the course are severely sloped
so making sure you hit onto the right tier could be the difference
between a good score or the dreaded 3 putt. Hole 12 Chateau
Whistler's signature hole is a 212 yard par 3; this hole perfectly
sums up the course. You're tee-shot takes place on an elevated
tee-box overlooking a green that is tucked right beside a piece of
exposed mountain rock. If the rock to the right looks intimidating
don't forget the pond off to the left, accuracy is at a premium
here or else be prepared to watch your ball jump 40 yards in the
air or go for a swim. The magnificent club house and newly added
David Leadbetter Golf Academy are just the icing on the cake of
this world class facility. So if you're looking for a course that
you and your friends won't soon forget check out the Chateau
Whistler Golf Course for a one of a kind golf
experience.
Whistle Golf Club
Whistler Golf Club is
located right in the middle of Whistler a stone's throw away from
the village and most of the surrounding hotels. The most
traditional design of the three this course was the first golf
facility built in Whistler and was masterminded by the legendary
Arnold Palmer. The course features a mix of beautiful tree lined
fairways and challenging water features. Possibly the most
difficult course of all three from the back tee's this track is
perfect for the golfer looking for the purest form of golf in the
Whistler Valley. Mr. Palmer has done very little to disturb the
area in which the course was designed instead choosing to follow
the natural contours of the land. Whistler Golf Club is also home
to the largest practice facility of all three courses, it features
a large netted range right in the heart of Whistler Village. The
facility is open to the public allowing you to hit a bucket of
balls with your friends or family if that's all you're looking for.
Recently the course experienced a series of renovations resulting
in what may be the purest rolling greens in Whistler. If you're a
golfer looking for a challenge on a elegantly designed course or
just looking to beat a bucket of a balls than look no further than
Whistler Golf Club.
